Comforting Meals in LA: The Foods That Carried Me During Pregnancy Loss

sourdough bread

During my miscarriage, cooking often felt impossible, even when I wanted to nourish myself. The meals I was able to eat helped me process the experience while also giving my body the nutrients it needed. I’m so grateful for those foods — they quietly supported me and helped my body begin to heal.

These are the meals that nourished me through the process, along with where I found them in Los Angeles.

Steak + baked potato

from Charcoal Venice

A simple steak with a baked potato felt deeply nourishing when my body needed protein and warmth. It was one of the meals that helped me feel steady again.

Chicken noodle soup

from Kreation Organic Juicery

Chicken noodle soup was one of the easiest things to eat when my appetite was inconsistent. Warm broth, soft noodles, and simple ingredients felt supportive.

Eggs + black beans

from The Butcher's Daughter

Ordering a breakfast burrito as a bowl with eggs and black beans gave me protein and something substantial without feeling heavy.

Sourdough (country bread) with butter

from Tartine Bakery

Sometimes the simplest food was enough. Toasted sourdough with butter felt comforting and easy when cooking felt like too much.

Chocolate chip cookies or cacao hot chocolate

from Parakeet Cafe or homemade

A small sweet moment of comfort also mattered. Warm chocolate or a cookie can feel grounding when the body and heart are both tired.

During recovery, nourishment does not have to be elaborate. Sometimes a warm meal from a familiar place can be enough.
